Today’s News: Inspiring Female Olympians, a Kind Stranger and a Little Boy from Syria

Here’s today’s news. Humans are complex creatures. We are capable of such wonderful kindness and such horrible cruelty. Today, I felt this contradiction vividly as I was reporting the news.

On the one hand, we have stories about female athletes supporting each other at the Olympics, even as they compete. On the other hand, we have stories about humans hurting each other for political or other reasons. Both kinds of stories are important, because they tell us about ourselves as a society. They help us to come to terms with and thrive in a world that seems so chaotic at times.

Join us as we discuss a stranger’s kindness in Texas, some tips for getting better sleep, the fate of little Osman’s brother, an explosion in Turkey and some good news from the Olympics.

The second is a story about a baby that was born at 30,000 feet. The first had me in tears and the second had me smiling from ear to ear.
